Bigroad DiningIn 1983, the only real truckstops were owned by Union 76. The "Big Orange Ball in the Sky". Westbound on I-70 late one evening, I knew I was getting close to Kansas City. My CB radio, the only connection to humanity available to me on the road, had been quiet for several hours. It was now coming to life with voices looking for road dope, working girls and various crude jokes and threats of violence. As a rule, I avoided truckstops for these reasons. But tonight, I needed a place to wait for my delivery in KC in the morning. I needed a payphone to make my daily call home to my wife. I needed conversation with a face attached to the voice. I fueled, paid at the fuel desk, and parked on the far end of the "party row", the last line of parking spaces farthest from the building.
I was walking back towards the truckstop restaurant for dinner when a driver stopped me, and said they were cooking steaks out behind the party row. I wandered that way with him, seeing the small bonfire burning out
In Sickness and in HealthIt can be a scary world sometimes..... I understand that. When I get scared about things I try to bring my world down to a more manageable place. First it helps to sit quietly and think of blessings - never perfect, but blessings just the same. I focus on the things around me that I can touch - then I focus on the things I can actually control..... like being inside our home, the chair I am sitting on, and then I go to the place in my heart where I keep the love of my family, and friends, and just be quiet inside. That love rests lightly on my shoulders and always walks with me.
As I sit here, it is still dark outside. The streetlight is poking its light through the leaves on a tree in our front yard, reminding me of the sun that will soon be putting its nose over the horizon. Sometimes that is the only thing I know for sure that will happen in the new day that is preparing itself to rise and join me. My home is so quiet early in the morning. The only sound is Dad's oxygen converter fa
The Lean Economy of the Trucking IndustryAs a fleet manager, I don’t get much chance to revel in the economics of trucking. What I am waist deep in, day in and day out, is the economics of Drivers. With OTR Driver turnover in the triple digits, a Good, Experienced Driver is a very valuable commodity. Why then does the industry allow, in fact, accept, our turnover rate? This is what I see, all too often.
I have 45 active Owner-Operators on my board. Most started with me as lease operators. Of these, I have a large percentage that are Good, Experienced Drivers, many of which have paid off at least one truck. They all have one thing in common; a passion for owning their careers.
Last night, one of my favorite Drivers, Tom, called me at home. He made his last lease payment on his truck last week, and is in the process of getting his title. He earned it through blood, sweat, and determination. Tom never calls me at home, so I knew something was really wrong.
While in the sleeper, at a truck stop outside Knoxville, the

there are a lot of ways to get out there and be seen on dA, but often they require a lot of work when you are just starting to try to get some exposure.

I totaly agree. and think about the fact deviantart was born for new rising kind of artists or art operators.. and now when i search something new i allways find MLP, a random anime or pics without depth, but just an incredible digital and cold technique. a lot of artists are famous thanks to favourites made with exposure on other sites.. this sucks
