Hey guys,
it's another Monday (at least for some of us it's still Monday) so here's a new topic.
This week we'll discuss mentoring because I couldn't think of a better topic and JenFruzz is awesome and suggested this one.

Did you know that there are various groups here on DA that offer mentoring?  ... shameless promotion time
seniormentors ... QUICK, go check it out!  :eager:

I'm sure some of you noticed my journal the other day in regards to mentoring and what I can help with etc.  JenFruzz has been working hard to breathe new life into seniormentors and it's starting to gain some traction which is really awesome.
We all started somewhere with our art, but how many of us had a mentor we could go to with questions or problems?  How many of us were fortunate enough to have a support system that not only was uplifting and supportive of our art, but also was able to help us find better footing in what we do.

I had art classes in school but never really felt like I was taught anything in them.  It was mostly just a "oh paint this." or "oh, draw that." type of deal with no real technical help or the like.
I did take some small art courses outside of school as well which were far more beneficial, probably because they were geared towards actually teaching us how to use the mediums and not just handing them to us and saying go forth and paint/draw/sculpt etc..

I'd love to hear your experiences with mentoring in art.

  • Have you ever mentored anyone?
  • Did you or do you have a mentor?
  • Have you ever thought about getting involved with a mentoring program on DA?
  • If you could be mentored in anything of your choice, would you prefer to learn a new skill or would you rather work on refining an existing skill you already have?
  • Do you have any other thoughts or experiences you'd like to share?
